Westminster College aims to cultivate individuals who understand diverse cultures and uphold ethical responsibilities to others. Through the Office of Faith and Spirituality, students have participated in global and domestic service trips, from South Africa and Malawi to Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and across the U.S., including Alaska. These trips allow students to serve communities—building homes, preparing meals, restoring trails, planting trees, and more. Each trip includes educational elements, like studying climate change on Alaskan glaciers or supporting recycling efforts. Accessible to all students, these experiences foster Westminster's commitment to service and meaningful engagement. Your support helps sustain these impactful opportunities.
It offers an unbelievable opportunity for personal and spiritual growth for our students. When asked about the trip to Alaska, Chaplain Jim Mohr describes the adventure as an opportunity for personal growth and transformation. "Asking students, what do you want to do and why do you want to do that? And what role does God play in all this? It's a trip that's transformative." Students who are unable to participate in one of our trips until they are a senior will almost always say, “I sure wish I would have participated as a first year. No doubt I would have been a part of one of our service teams every year. My view of the world is so much different today than before." In short, we want every single Titan to be able to afford an experience like this by the time they graduate.
Our goal is to make all trips accessible to every student. The programs receive some funding from church resources, and students are encouraged to seek additional support from family, friends, and churches, through campaigns like this!
Trip costs range from $700 to $2,000 per student, covering all essentials except travel meals and personal expenses. To keep expenses low, we often stay in churches and prepare our own meals. This campaign will help reduce the financial burden for students participating in Spring Break with a Purpose trips or longer journeys to Alaska or abroad.
