Gifts to Department of Physics - Meet Naomi contribute to...
Naomi ’27 is using her Hope education to fulfill a lifelong passion.
Hailing from Haverhill, Mass., the physics and theater double major has always been interested in how the world works. Now, she’s performing hands-on research with Dr. Paul DeYoung.
“I do research in the nuclear group with Dr. DeYoung. My project is researching the Beta decay strengths of 86Br,” she explained.
Naomi plans to utilize her research experience for her post-graduation plans. “I’m still deciding between grad school for physics and geoscience, or going straight into the industry,” she said.
She’s been impressed by the well-rounded excellence of the physics department. “It’s a really close-knit community that feels more like a family,” she shared. “Dr. DeYoung takes the time to ask me about things beyond my research like my mental health and extracurricular activities.”
When Naomi isn’t busy in the research lab, she can often be found performing on the stage. You can watch her perform in Sense and Sensibility in the DeWitt Theatre this April.
She’s thankful for donors like you, especially after receiving support for her summer research endeavor. “I learned so much about physics and life. Amazing opportunities like this wouldn’t be possible without your generosity. Thank you so much,” Naomi said gratefully.
Your gifts to the physics department will allow students like Naomi to receive world-class, hands-on instruction, enabling them to be a force for change.
