The Bowdoin Outing Club (BOC), with an annual membership of roughly 1,600, is one of the most popular student organizations at the College and has long sought to have a base camp centrally located in the western Maine Mountains. Stephanie and Tim Foster (dean of student affairs, emeritus), devoted and now retired staff members, donated funds for the purchase and asked that the property be called the Finnegan M. Woodruff Mountain Center, in honor of Finnegan Woodruff ’21. About their gift, the Fosters said: “The BOC offers students the unusual opportunity to learn skills and practice their leadership in Bowdoin’s largest classroom—the wild places of the great state of Maine and beyond.”
Your gift of any size will directly support important infrastructure and enhancements to the property, including:
- Bunkhouses
- A well and pump for running water
- Covered picnic pavilion
- Tent-pads
- Vault outhouses
- Adirondack-style shelters
- Grading and excavation to improve access
