Gifts to Student Assistance contribute to...
Student Emergency Fund
The Student Emergency Fund provides financial assistance for students, who would otherwise not be able to afford expenses that may be unforeseen due to loss or other circumstances.
This fund is dedicated to those students who experience challenges that require financial support that is outside their aid award from the College. These are often related to dental, vision, medical, and emergency travel, related to a death of a family member.
With the generous support of donations, this has allowed Whitman College to provide financial aid that they otherwise would not be able to access.
Food Pantry
As a campus community we strive to promote the well-being and success of all of our students. In our purpose to support our students, specifically those students struggling with food insecurities and/or lack of consistent access to nutritious and/or affordable foods, the Intercultural Center (IC), in partnership with generous donors and the Dean of Students Office, have come together to create an on-campus food pantry. We respect the identities and backgrounds of all members on this campus and we strive to make this food pantry a welcoming place for all who need its contents.
Many factors affect students' financial situations while at Whitman, and students may experience food insecurity due to a variety of financial circumstances. Some students may be responsible for sending money home to care for family members and relatives. Some students may also have complicated family dynamics which lead to family withholding financial support. Additional factors can include the affordability of paying rent and unexpected expenses, such as medical costs.
Summer Fly-In Program
Starting college is exciting, but it can also feel daunting. Whitman College has developed a pre-orientation program called the Summer Fly-In. It’s designed to help students who are either the first in their family to attend college and/or from a working-class background to get to know each other and everything Whitman has to offer.
The Summer Fly-In program is for incoming students who will be enrolled at Whitman in the fall semester. If you are a high school student interested in visiting Whitman, please check out the Visit Scholar Program.
Students participating in the Summer Fly-In will connect with other new and current students, as well as key staff and faculty who will share major campus resources.
