Support the legacy of Dr. Benjamin C. Wilson Jr.
The Dr. Benjamin C. Wilson, Jr. Endowment celebrates the life and impact of beloved professor, mentor, and trailblazer, Dr. Benjamin C. Wilson, Jr. As professor emeritus and founder of the Black Americana Studies Program (now the African American and African Studies Program) at Western Michigan University he dedicated over 30 years to educating, empowering, and uplifting others through history.
This endowment carries forward his legacy by providing scholarships to students studying History and or African American Studies . It supports young scholars who are passionate about uncovering, understanding, and honoring the depth of African American and African history.
Dr. Wilson was not just an educator he was a life-changer. “He radiated Black pride. Everyone he met, he changed their life,” says his daughter, Nikki Wilson. He believed education was not just about personal achievement, but creating positive change. His work with the Douglass Community Center and WMU’s Upward Bound Program opened doors to higher education for countless Black youth.
