Coach John Pennington will return next season for his 10th season at the helm of the Yellow Jacket football program, and has the team poised to compete for an MEC Championship. The Yellow Jackets are anticipating one of the largest rosters in recent history, having recently announced the 2026 recruiting class, which includes 49 high school seniors and 15 transfers. This class has a lot of local and regional talent, with 8 of the newcomers from West Virginia, and 22 come from neighboring states. The 2026 class boasts national flavor as well, with 8 players from Florida, as well as recruits from Texas, South Carolina, and Michigan.
The high expectations on the field for this class will be matched only by the expectations in the classroom, as the 2025 Yellow Jackets boasted 51 student athletes with above a 3.0 GPA in fall 2025, including 9 with a perfect 4.0.
