Gifts to Making a Difference Campaign: The 60th Anniversary of the Department of Communication and Media contribute to...
Make a Difference for the WCU Department of Communication & Media Students
The mission of the Department of Communication & Media is to prepare undergraduate and graduate students to ethically employ learned communication and media strategies across career fields such as sales, nonprofit organizations, corporate communication, human resources, government, and entrepreneurship. Many of our graduates also pursue advanced degrees and professional training in law, business management, counseling, and social work. We train students to use the latest technologies and tools used in media professions: expertise in media technologies and software, specialized skills like media performance, production, strategic messaging, research, and analysis, and the ability to use media in a strategic, critical way, in diverse cultural contexts.
As we mark sixty years since the creation of our predecessor department, we are challenging ourselves to reach higher and think more expansively about our impact. Through the Making a Difference Campaign, we seek not only to sustain essential departmental initiatives but to broaden our vision of what is possible, supporting our students, empowering our faculty, strengthening our college and institution, and contributing meaningfully to our wider community and world.
The Department of Communication & Media and its faculty and students seek to make a difference in our communities. Our students and faculty make a difference every day by:
- Running the TV and Radio stations on campus
- Supporting student experiential learning through our Internship program
- Writing for The Quad student newspaper
- Writing and creating visual content for the online WCUPA Life magazine
- Incorporating sustainability into our classes through regional field trips
- Supporting inclusion of all students in the MoonShot for Equity initiative
