Support the AVBA Scholarship with the Association of Vanderbilt Black Alumni (AVBA) on Vanderbilt’s 10th Giving Day
The Association of Vanderbilt Black Alumni (AVBA) was created by alumni to connect the Black Vanderbilt community, as well as all at Vanderbilt that are supporters and allies, with each other and the university. AVBA was established during Homecoming Weekend in 1983 – a few short months before the Bishop Joseph Johnson Black Cultural Center was established and dedicated to Vanderbilt’s first African American to graduate from the university, Bishop Joseph Johnson. AVBA is a resource and alumni community for connection, from social, arts and networking events to mentorship and supporting students through scholarships.
Anchored in Opportunity. Powered by Community.
We’re 10 Giving Days in, and the momentum continues.
Your gift to the AVBA Scholarship fuels real impact—right now.
Why It Matters
When you choose to give with the Association of Vanderbilt Black Alumni (AVBA), your gift will directly support the AVBA Scholarship Fund, helping Vanderbilt award scholarships to four deserving students per year.
When 50 donors make a gift to the AVBA Scholarship Fund, over $3,000 will be unlocked from AVBA leadership, including previous AVBA presidents Myria Carpenter, BS’97, and Alex Atkinson, BE’96, MDiv’01, and members of the AVBA Board including Doug Murrell, BS’95; Jami Cox, BA’18; Jesse Giles, BA’03; Chris Gilmore, JD’11; Donald Horace, BA’91; and Nick Martin, BA’11.
Celebrate 10 Giving Days of Impact
This milestone moment is powered by thousands of donors who show up year after year. Your participation keeps that momentum going. Every gift strengthens what we are anchored in—and builds what’s next.
