Virginia Softball Bicentennial Scholars Fund
Ever since the program’s inception in 1980, Virginia Softball has been comprised of hard-working, smart, and determined student-athletes. Athletic scholarships have created life-changing opportunities for current student-athletes and alumni to pursue excellence in competition, in the classroom, and in service to the broader community. The ability for the University of Virginia to offer robust scholarships is vital to not only attract the best softball student-athletes, but it’s imperative in order to compete at the highest level.
The college athletics funding model, where football pays for itself and helps fund all other sports, is being challenged in the court of law via the pending House Settlement. If passed, football and basketball student-athletes will be eligible to share in the revenues generated from their sports. These are the same funds that are used to help fund the Virginia Softball program.
To navigate these changes, the Virginia Softball Bicentennial Scholars Fund has been established by the continued generosity of Lisa and Fran Palmer. This scholarship endowment provides sustained, long-term support, ensuring the softball student-athletes receive scholarship funds for generations to come.
To help Virginia Softball develop leaders and achieve excellence in competition and in life, consider making a gift today. For any inquiries about this, please contact Sam Woodward by email at swoodward@virginia.edu or by phone at 434 – 982 – 5563.
