About

As UNH's first interdisciplinary school, the School of Marine Science and Ocean Engineering (SMSOE) takes great pride in our research and our students' hands-on experience, both designed to address today’s complex ocean and coastal challenges. Along with the Shoals Marine Lab (SML), we provide opportunities for students do amazing research right here on the New Hampshire seacoast, offshore at Appledore Island, and even as far as away as the Arctic.

Funds raised by the School of Marine Science and Ocean Engineering during The (603) Challenge directly support student research projects that specialize in areas that they find most interesting and ensure their ideas will become a reality. Funds raised by Shoals Marine Lab ensure that life changing summer educational and research opportunities on Appledore Island remain accessible to all students.

  • Please consider helping us reach our goal of 200 donors between SMSOE and SML to unlock $6,000 from the Chase Family, and Rodney Dunlap '57.

If you haven't given yet, there's plenty of time to make a difference for students on the seacoast, the islands, and at sea this (603) Challenge: Make your gift today!
