International Career Advancement Program (ICAP)
“This immersive environment helped me set a laser focus on the things I valued most in my career. Upon returning to work, my
priorities were clear, and I believe the change in mindset I developed during my time at ICAP played a significant role in
securing a major promotion just a few months later.” – anonymous ICAP Fellow
ICAP is a premier professional development and leadership initiative for mid-career professionals in international affairs. Since its founding by former Korbel Dean Dr. Tom Rowe in 1997, the program has helped more than 900 Fellows grow their careers, and many move into senior roles across government, non-profit, and private sectors. It is a program of the Josef Korbel School of Global and Public Affairs at the University of Denver.
Support Needed: Due to significant federal funding cuts, many organizations that have historically covered the expenses for their mid-career professionals to attend ICAP no longer have the financial means. More than ever, your philanthropic support is essential to ensuring these rising stars are supported as they navigate an ever-changing professional landscape. Thank you for supporting ICAP and its growing community!
The program includes:
• A day-long session in Washington, D.C.
• An immersive eight-day retreat in Aspen, Colorado
• Ongoing alumni engagement in the ICAP Fellows Association
ICAP offers:
• A space to discuss personal and professional challenges and explore new solutions with peers facing similar issues
• A transformative experience in a reflective mountain setting offering a unique holistic approach that helps participants stay engaged and focused
• Self-care opportunities—woven into both the Aspen experience and speaker sessions—gives participants space to step back, reflect, and return to work recharged and refocused
• Peer support and networking with 30–40 accomplished professionals from a variety of sectors and backgrounds to build lasting supportive peer networks and friendships
• Access to 20–30 accomplished senior mentors and career advisors
• Values-based career coaching, leadership development, and policy discussions
• Discussions on alternative management and leadership styles to assist individuals in assessing their own styles and that of their colleagues and supervisors
• A growing global network of more than 900 Fellows to foster mutual support and ongoing career growth with the ICAP Fellows Association, a separate 501(c)(3) org supporting ICAP Fellows
Thank you for your support!

250 days ago by Mike GarveyDear Fellows, Mentors, and Friends,
We reached our first major milestone in this campaign - raising enough to support one ICAP Fellow to attend in 2026! THANK YOU!
Let's keep up the momentum all the way through #GivingTuesday on December 2. We'll expand the goal today to $22,000 so we can raise enough to support another Fellow. Think we can get to $55K? That's the big dream. Let's keep going and see what we can accomplish together.
A special thanks to Dr. Tom Rowe for leading the way with his $5,000 matching gift. Stay tuned for another matching gift announcement soon!
Thank you for your generosity and advocacy!
