Gifts to Dr. Linda Lucas contribute to...
Dr. Linda Lucas has been nothing short of the matriarch of UAB’s Engineering program, holding numerous key roles within the department, and within UAB itself. She has been a UAB student, UAB parent, UAB professor, Dean of the School of Engineering, and UAB Provost.
Dr. Lucas has served as President of three national scientific organizations: The Society for Biomaterials, the Biomedical Engineering Society, and the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering. She’s also served on the inaugural NIH Council for the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering. She’s published in over 55 research publications for orthopaedic, dental, and cardiovascular applications, and secured multiple federal and industry grants.
Dr. Lucas has served as research advisor for over 30 students at UAB Engineering, changing the lives and enriching the careers of so many with whom she’s collaborated. She currently serves on the UAB BME Advisory Board as well as the UAB Honors College Advisory Board and is President-Elect of the Alabama Holocaust Education Center. Linda has been known to her students as a close and caring mentor, always willing to go the extra mile for them. She’s consistently fostered remarkable teamwork and camaraderie amongst her students which has remained a hallmark of our program today.
We ask you to make a gift to honor Dr. Lucas’ unparalleled legacy at UAB Engineering. We intend to name the Dean's office in her honor.
