Gifts to Dr. Jack Lemons contribute to...
Thanks to the vision of faculty leaders like Dr. Jack Lemons, the Department of Biomedical Engineering is a catalyst for innovation at UAB, leveraging the University’s interdisciplinary expertise to accelerate the pace of scientific discovery and prepare graduates for success in dynamic fields like biotechnology. Building on the foundation established by Dr. Lemons, Dr. Jay Zhang has guided the Department to national prominence, including ranking fourth nationally in research funding from the National Institutes of Health. For more than half a century, Dr. Lemons has served as the linchpin of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, offering his expertise and guidance to countless students who have gone on to share his wisdom with others, whether in the classroom or in designing commercial medical device applications.
In addition to his own prolific work in the field of implant devices—including service on the editorial board of the Journal of Biomedical Materials Research and authoring four books and more than 200 journal articles—Dr. Lemons has mentored and chaired more than 300 student theses and dissertations, leading to more than 600 publications. More broadly, the connections that Dr. Lemons helped foster between students and across fields has enriched the careers of so many of our alumni.
We ask you to make a gift to honor Dr. Lemons’ unparalleled legacy at UAB Engineering. We plan to honor Dr. Lemons by naming a BME Bioinstrumentation Lab after him.
