Palliative care supports patients during their entire illness journey, from diagnosis through treatment and beyond. Our specialized teams — comprising doctors, nurses, social workers and chaplains — work collaboratively with patients and their families to create personalized care plans that prioritize comfort, communication and choice. Our goal is to empower patients to make informed decisions about their care, reducing anxiety and fostering a sense of control during an uncertain time.
The impact of your donations will lead to:
- Resources to build memory boxes for families, including children of patients at end of life
- Legacy-making supplies/kits for patients
- Medication fund: coverage for medication delivery fees and medication costs
- Transportation fund: coverage to provide transportation fees for families wishing to visit their loved ones who are hospitalized at SBUH and are at end of life
- Travel fund: for patients at end of life wishing to be reunited with their loved ones out-of-state or out of the country who do not have the financial means to accomplish this
- Hiring of a palliative care music therapist
- Provision of other alternative medicine interventions such as reiki, acupuncture and art therapy
- Educational fund: funding to support continued education for aspiring hospice and palliative care specialists, such as medical students, physicians in training and undergraduate students
- Expansion of our volunteer program fund: support orientation and education resources for our palliative care volunteers
