Our summer SoMAS Total Immersion Scholarship allows high school students with financial need and who are potentially interested in degrees in marine sciences, atmospheric sciences or sustainability studies to spend part of the summer experiencing the fantastic opportunities in these fields through coursework and/or summer research experiences at our Southampton Marine Sciences Center, at the Flax Pond Marine Laboratory or at the main campus.
Marine science students study oceanography via boat trips and laboratory studies at the Southampton MarineStation. Those interested in sustainability can gain hands-on experience by designing and conducting research in areas such as ecotoxicology, GIS and coastal resilience research and planning. Those interested in atmospheric sciences can learn about extreme weather and how it impacts society for Long Island and other regions through our summer Extreme Weather class or through individualized summer research opportunities.
Your support will go a long way in showing students that there are highly rewarding career opportunities available through SoMAS degrees!
