This initiative aims to create a platform for undergraduate students studying philosophy to engage in pressing 21st-century ethical concerns, support each other in their studies and prepare for a philosophical life beyond the classroom. We seek funds to amplify the current activities of the Department of Philosophy’s undergraduate Philosophy Club. In particular, we seek to create paid opportunities for students to act as peer tutors for advanced courses; establish funds that would serve as a prize for an annual essay-writing contest on a recent moral issue; build on existing activities related to the Ethics Bowl, such as establishing a team that would compete in the national debating contest; and host a series of conversations about career preparation beyond Stony Brook for philosophy majors.
