Hispanic Serving Institute (HSI) Initiatives

Southwestern University is a member of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU), a national organization that supports Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) and expands student professional development opportunities. As a member institution, all Southwestern students —regardless of background— are eligible to participate in a variety of HACU programs, including internships, scholarships, and leadership opportunities.

For several years, Southwestern has supported student participation at the HACU ¡Adelante! Leadership Institute —an immersive program and conference experience designed to develop students’ leadership skills, build professional networks, and connect them with top industry leaders. Students like Brianna Gonzales ‘24 have used the Institute experience to expand their career aspirations and secure competitive internships that align with their professional goals.

This initiative underscores Southwestern’s work as an HSI and its efforts to scale professional resources for the student community. We invite you to partner with us and help create lasting opportunities for all students. We project a cost of $2,000 per student to attend the 2025 ¡Adelante! Leadership Institute. Your gift during Southwestern Giving Day contributes to HSI initiatives that empower students and prepare graduates for success in an interconnected world. Together, we can shape a brighter future for Southwestern students!
