Distinctive Collections and Archives

We are excited to share that Distinctive Collections & Archives has returned to its historic home in the restored former Cody Memorial Library, now enhanced with a new primary source learning lab. This dedicated space has transformed how we engage with students and faculty, allowing for hands-on learning experiences that bring history to life. Southwestern University's Distinctive Collections & Archives stands out among institutions of similar size, not only in the size and scope of our holdings but also in our dedication to student engagement.

Since moving back in August 2024, we have welcomed:

• 54 class sessions with 833 students, with more classes scheduled for Spring 2025.
• 16 non-class tours attended by 234 visitors and 147 walk-ins exploring the collections and building.
• 46 researchers using our collections for in-depth study and course assignments

We are fostering deeper connections between students and the rare materials that shape their understanding of history, culture, and scholarship. Our motto, “Come in and Explore,” reflects our commitment to making these collections inviting and accessible to all.

This space will transform Distinctive Collections into a hub of experiential learning where students and the community can explore bookmaking, printing, and historical materials in innovative ways.
