Gerald W. Thomas’ Historical Presidential Papers

One of NMSU’s longest-serving presidents, Gerald W. Thomas led NMSU to grow significantly as a powerhouse of education in the state. This fund will be used to hire a graduate student to complete the work on Dr. Thomas’ extensive physical collection, making it accessible to researchers, interested community members, and alumni. Thomas’ collection includes key moments from his presidential years and papers from his own research in the agricultural sciences. The initial inventory of Thomas’ papers has already revealed items of historical interest with regard to Borderland events, free speech issues, and other topics that mirror current events of today.
