Esports Keeps Growing
Esports is attracting students to Marietta College, along with more than 170 colleges nationwide, by taking gaming to the next level. As a multi-billion-dollar electronic sports industry, Esports, like traditional sports, centers around organized, competitive gameplay that promotes teamwork, communication, strategic thinking and problem solving. It’s so popular, Marietta College needs to add more gaming computers – even just one more makes a difference - for the students lining up to participate!
The Esports program will also host our annual twelve-hour livestream starting at 10:00 a.m. (Eastern) on February 14th at https://twitch.tv/mariettaesports. Our students and coaches will be showcasing some of their favorite games to play. Please join us and help support our students!
- Esports started as an MC club sport with 17 students, and is now an official varsity program, with its own facility, practice schedules, and almost 40 students and seven teams competing nationwide.
- Esports is a gateway to other STEM fields like computer science, engineering and game design. It also feeds majors in the math, business, communications, and sports marketing fields.
MC Accomplishments:
- Valorant team finished second in their NACE Starleague Varsity Plus conference in Spring 2023.
- Overwatch team was NACE Starleague Varsity Plus conference champions in Fall 2023.
- Fortnite team has consistently qualified for the NACE Starleague National Championships and finished 17th in the country in the Fall 2023 Zero Build Split Championship.
- MC Head Coach secured several partnerships to help our students including HyperX, Incrediwear, MSI, Elgato, Over the Moon Pizza, and Bye Blue Light.
- Thanks to the generosity of the community, we were able to host our first LANfest in Fall 2023, where students were able to come together to play games and compete in tournaments for prizes.
