Gifts to Support the COMMunity 2020 contribute to:
Communication Studies students always appreciate your support.
Your gift makes a direct difference in their lives!
There are four main ways for you to help support Communication Studies:
- The Communication Studies Student Fund helps student learning and professional growth, plus supports our COMMunity traditions. These funds help pay for student travel to present their research at academic conferences and to attend professional conferences and lunches like those sponsored by the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). Money raised in this fund also helps pay for special-needs cases, such as when students can't afford books. The traditions that make life in the COMMunity special like the COMM Career Conference, the #RealComm Competition, and the COMM Senior Celebration are also supported through this fund.
- Longwood Academy for Events and Meeting Planning (LAMP), administered by Communication Studies, offers workshops and certifications for the event and meeting planning industry. Participants receive training from meeting planning professionals in the skills that they need to succeed in this competitive industry. Any money raised will help defer costs for students who wish to attend these workshops and provide scholarships for those who cannot afford to attend.
- The Media Showcase is an annual event that awards prize money to the best student created documentaries, news packages and other media entries. Previous documentary winners have included Autumn Childress (Jes Simmons Story, and Beulah: A Beacon of Hope, which won a national Award of Excellence from the Broadcast Education Association) Nick Lewis & Erin Eaton (Shifting Gears: The Evolution of Short Track Racing). Money raised would help fund the award ceremony and student prizes.
- As always, we honor the legendary “Dr. B” through the Dr. William D. Stuart Student Scholarship, which is awarded annually to a Communication Studies student who demonstrates leadership on campus and within the community. Money raised will add to the scholarship to offset tuition costs for the recipient.
