Longwood LIFE is a two-year post-secondary pre-employment certificate program for students with intellectual disabilities from surrounding school systems who desire a college experience that prepares them for greater independence in life and work. We currently have 16 students from six Region 8 school systems who come to campus two days a week during each semester to take courses in fine arts, lifetime activities, social skills, consumer math, young adult reading and writing, technology for life, daily living skills, and vocational training. All students have on-campus jobs with the support of job coaches. The tuition cost per student per semester is $1000. An important feature of our program is the summer employment training for students to have a residential experience while taking classes in vocational preparation; including career exploration trips, training with job coaches, cooking and meal prep, independent living applications, and future job orientation. For our Love Your Longwood Day Campaign, we are raising support for each of our Longwood LIFE students to receive this important summer training at the cost of $500 per student.
Our Longwood LIFE students have become an important part of our school culture and desire to be citizen leaders in their home communities!
