We have a challenge. Will you join us?
Drs. Raymond and Patricia Cormier have called on the alumni and friends of the Cormier Honors College for Citizen Scholars to join them in a Love Your Longwood Day challenge. For each dollar we raise up to $3,000, the Cormiers will provide a match.
That is a big challenge, in more ways than one. Thankfully, we have no shortage of compelling opportunities to be someone’s hero.
Be a hero, for the love of Honors.
Cormier Honors College students are scholars and servant-leaders. They do amazing work inside the classroom and in our communities. Join us in showing your love for Honors by making a gift to support student research, leadership development, and community engagement. You may choose to support a specific program that is entirely focused on making a difference for our students and also celebrates the legacy of an Honors alumnus.
The Breakthrough Adventures Program
The Breakthrough Adventures Program celebrates Riley Middleton Cole, Class of 2015, Honors student, Political Science major, active member of the Campus Recreation community, and passionate follower of world events.
We lost Riley in his senior year, but his imprint on the Honors community has not faded. In collaboration with Riley’s parents, we established the Breakthrough Adventures Program to honor Riley’s passion for learning. Students are invited to submit proposals to do something that stretches their comfort zones and challenges their intellect.
The Shelby Waugh Award for Excellence
The Shelby Waugh Award for Excellence celebrates Shelby Waugh, Class of 2014, Honors student, and Communication Studies major. To borrow from Professor Dumbledore, Shelby was “exceptionally hard working, infinitely fair-minded, and most importantly, a fierce, fierce friend.” Shelby was deeply committed to community service, and she invested countless hours in efforts to engage her fellow students in work in our communities. In addition to her tireless efforts to establish the Eddie Carey, Jr. Memorial Day of Service while a student, Shelby volunteered for our Longwood@Yellowstone program for four years after her graduation.
Both of these programs support our most important work in the Cormier Honors College: providing unique and challenging opportunities for students to excel in scholarship and in service to our communities.
Today’s the day. Will you join us? Will you be someone’s hero?
