The mission of the Office of Jewish Student Life is to serve the spiritual and communal needs of our Jewish students and the broader Lehigh community, so that they may enrich the Jewish people and the world during their college years and beyond.
Your gift supports OJSL’s religious, social, educational, and cultural programs throughout the year. Your gift also supports the budget of the Hillel Society, which is our primary campus Jewish student group. It also supports all of our efforts for programming and engagement, which enables us to reach as many students as possible. This is achieved by the director, our Graduate Assistant, and a cohort of up to 10 Lehigh student staff members. Salaries and stipends for all of this are supported 100% by donations and some grants.
Together with Hillel, the OJSL sponsors services and delicious dinners every Shabbat, as well as on Jewish holidays throughout the year. This includes Passover seders, as well as meals during the week of the holiday. We also make sure to offer vegan and Gluten Free options at every meal and to do our best to meet all dietary needs. The cost of kosher food is constantly increasing, and is one of our major expenses that would be covered by your gifts.
We are also committed to sponsoring all of our programs free-of-charge. We can only do that with the help of your gifts.
The office is located in the Jewish Student Center. This is a university and owned and operated building, for which we are truly grateful. However, we are also committed to having snacks and drinks for our students at all times, including chicken (and vegetarian) soup that students or their parents can order when they need a little extra comfort. Again, all of these expenses are covered by your gifts.
These are challenging times for the Jewish people throughout the world. That is why having a home-away-from-home like the Jewish Student Center and the programs sponsored by the OJSL and Lehigh HIllel are so important. We can only continue this important work through the generosity of our supporters. We are grateful for any amount that you are able to give.
