Children's Environmental Precision Health Institute (CEPH)

The Children's Environmental Precision Health Institute researches fetal and infant exposures to fossil fuel and other modern chemicals, from the womb through the first few years of life. We investigate how such exposures impact life-long elevated risks of asthma, obesity, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases, and multiple types of cancers in older age. These risks are higher for Pennsylvanian citizens because the state is full of hills and valleys, intensifying potential human contact with air pollutants. By understanding the primordial origin of such illnesses, we can develop prevention strategies before irreversible impairments occur.
