Howard University Alternative Spring Break 2026 (HUASB26) Presents "Service with Impact: Empowering Communities and Dismantling Disparities"

The 32nd Annual HUASB program will take place March 7-14, 2026. This year’s theme is “Service with Impact: Empowering Communities and Dismantling Disparities.” Since 1994, HUASB has been committed to serving communities in need while cultivating the next generation of servant leaders. During this year’s program, Howard University students will serve in 22 domestic communities focusing on various service initiatives, such as community development, developing pathways to food and housing stability, education, holistic wellness, poverty, restorative justice, and youth empowerment.

Howard University Alternative Spring Break (HUASB) is a nationally recognized service-learning program for students of all faiths and backgrounds to embrace the Howard University motto of “Truth and Service.” Coordinated through the Office of the Dean of the Chapel and offered at no cost to students, this student-led University service initiative allows students to discover the power of ethical leadership, civic engagement, and communal responsibility.

This year HUASB student volunteers have expressed their commitment to forgo their traditional spring break and devote themselves to being social engineers in systematically underserved communities. The Office of the Dean of the Chapel is committed to ensuring that every student who wants to serve will be able to serve without financial barriers. We are asking HUASB Alumni and friends to make a gift to the Howard University Alternative Spring Break program and ensure that our students have the financial support needed to change the world through service this Spring Break! Make your gift today!

HUASB Mission

Howard University Alternative Spring Break (HUASB) is a service-learning program designed to connect students with underserved communities and to explore the spiritual and ethical dimensions of leadership as it challenges students to discern how their unique gifts and skills can be used to address the needs of underserved communities and the world at large.

HUASB Vision

The vision of HUASB is to expose students to concepts of social justice, urban education, and community development; cultivate ethically responsible, socially aware leaders; integrate vocational discernment and interfaith spiritual exploration into the developmental process; and improve communities through direct outreach and long-term impact.
