About

One might expect a global studies major to travel abroad once or twice during their time at Hope College. Daniela ’26, however, has studied on four continents.

When it became time to select a college major, the junior from Comayagua, Honduras, had an easy choice. “I’m passionate about learning how people, places and systems are all connected. I love exploring how food and traditions connect people and reflect their cultures. As an international student, I have always been interested in the differences and similarities across cultures. Global studies gives me the tools to analyze these connections,” she explained.

The excellence of the program has equipped Daniela with the tools necessary to put what she’s learning into practice. “I have learned how the world is connected through cultural, social and political systems,” she said. “Currently, I’m analyzing global challenges such as migration, economic livelihood, housing and environmental change in diverse contexts.”

This rigorous coursework has taken Daniela far beyond North America, including stops in Argentina, Spain and South Africa.

Though she doesn’t graduate for another year, Daniela aims to work in either global advocacy or international development focused on helping marginalized communities. “I hope to be a part of projects that encourage justice, bring people together and build a stronger global community,” she shared.

Daniela is particularly thankful for the help of Dr. Rodrigo Serrao. “The program challenges me to think in new ways about the world and my place in it,” she said. “Professors like Dr. Serrao have been inspiring, offering guidance on transforming my passion into meaningful action. Dr. Serrao’s dedication to understanding the complexities of our global society has motivated me to deepen my knowledge and learn from him.”

She’s thankful for donors like you. Generosity, she said, reminds her of Luke 6:38: “Give, and it will be given to you.” Daniela sees your gift as a reminder of the ripple effect it can create. “You are helping students like me pursue opportunities that not only transform our lives, but also prepare us to make a meaningful impact on others,” she explained.

In an increasingly globalized world, a global studies major is critical to student success. Will you prepare the next generation of culturally intelligent leaders with your gift today?
