About

Tim is inspired by Matthew 5:15 — "No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house."

“Hope College Campus Ministries has taught me how to live Matthew 5:15,” he shares.

Tim ’23 was incredibly active during his four years at Hope. In addition to studying accounting and religion, he was a student athlete, playing on the men’s golf team. Through Campus Ministries, he served as a team leader for Hope College Worship in addition to participating in Bible studies.

“I chose to be a part of this program because Campus Ministries was always a place where my name and story were known,” he says. “The chaplains and staff made it a priority to invest in me and dive into relationships with students.”

When challenges came Tim’s way, he knew what to do. “The chaplains encouraged me to sit in the heartache of what is not right in the world while taking heart that Christ has overcome the world. And we get to sit in the peace of Christ because God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all,” he explains.

Even though Tim has graduated from Hope, he still remains involved on campus and at his local church. “Generosity is the Hope way,” he says. He chooses to live out a pay-it-forward approach every day, recalling the time when a senior took him out for breakfast his freshman year. He decided to do the same his senior year. Tim is humble. He doesn’t want others to think this story is an exception. “It’s the culture on campus,” he says.

“Through the generosity of donors, my life has been changed,” Tim says. “Campus Ministries has been one of the most influential pieces of my life.”

Tim firmly believes in the Hope way of generosity. “The generosity of others has inspired me to reflect on the beauty of the Hope way: a way where we live to share our abundance to empower the next generation,” he says earnestly.
