Gifts to Hope Fund - Meet Monty contribute to...
Eavesdropping on local experts changed the trajectory of Monty’s life.
Originally from San Pedro Sula, Honduras, Monty ’25 always knew she wanted to study psychology. She just didn’t know how she would put it into practice. When she attended Hope’s “Eavesdropping on the Experts” panel discussion during her freshman year, her whole career came into focus.
“These social workers introduced me to the world of domestic violence counseling,” she shared. “This talk changed my life.”
Now, Monty is interning with the Children’s Advocacy Center. “This year, I’ll be working in the prevention based side of the organization. I’ll be working in the community to educate children and families on the dangers of child abuse and how to prevent it. I’ll be working in schools and the Spanish speaking communities on a campaign called ‘Kids Have Rights,’ which hopes to minimize the risk of child abuse at an early age.”
A psychology and social work double major, Monty was told college would not be possible without a significant scholarship. “My older brother is only a year older than me, so my parents were faced with paying for two college educations at the same time. It was difficult.”
But, the generosity of Hope’s donors made her college education possible. “When I found out about my scholarship, I was visiting family in America. We were all together and it was an amazing experience,” she said. “College was possible because of this scholarship. There was no way I could turn it down.”
“The Hope community is so strong,” she added. “I was scared of not finding people when I came here, but I’ve grown alongside my classmates. It’s a beautiful thing to experience.”
If Monty could speak to donors like you, she’d say, “Your generosity drove me to my career. Your passion for Hope brought me to my studies. You are giving so much to help other people and it blows me away.”
Your gifts have a real impact on students like Monty. Through your generosity, Hope students are discovering their true potential and setting out to change their communities.
