Gifts to Department of Communication - Meet Laura contribute to...
Laura ’24 already has taken what she learned in her Hope College communication classes and used it in England and Hawaii, thanks to priceless opportunities she found through the Department of Communication.
Originally from Zeeland, Mich., Laura took advantage of programs to spend May Terms in Liverpool, England, and our 50th state.
The Aloha May Term especially expanded her worldview. “I chose Hawaii because the issues that face the community are often unnoticed, overshadowed or ignored. And I believe that the best way to connect with and understand these struggles is to see the world from the other perspective,” she explained. “It was a moving experience.”
Since her graduation, Laura has made the most of a gap year before law school. “I’m interning for Lighthouse Immigrant Advocates and Pinsky Smith law firms while also working in the greater Holland area,” she said.
Laura is thankful for consistent excellence in the Department of Communication no matter where she has studied. “The Aloha May Term embodies the same qualities as the classrooms at Hope: great professors and students with an enthusiasm to learn and grow through experience,” she explained.
Every day, and especially on Day of Giving, she’s grateful to donors like you for your generosity. “May Terms can be costly, but they are priceless in value,” Laura said. “This chance helps to build professional, academic and real-life skills. Thank you. I have gained so much because my scholarship made my experience more accessible.”
Your gifts to the communication department provide transformational experiences to students like Laura. Make these futures possible by giving to what you love today.
