The Agnes Fund supports the Jocelyn Loves Agnes project: the recording, publication, performance, podcast, marketing, and dissemination of music by the brilliant Romantic composer Agnes Tyrrell.
Jocelyn Swigger, Professor of Piano at Gettysburg College Sunderman Conservatory of Music, is publishing and recording Agnes Tyrrell’s Etudes and Idylls for piano. She is learning all the music from photos of Agnes’s handwritten manuscripts that she took in the Tyrrell archive in the Czech Republic. They’ve never been recorded; some were never published, and the rest have been out of print since the 1870s.
The Etudes score will soon be released with the German publisher Certosa. The Idylls scores will be published on the open-source platform IMSLP, with an exclusive bound printed score available only to Agnes fund backers.
In the Jocelyn Loves Agnes Podcast, Professor Swigger will give herself piano lessons on Agnes’s music so listeners can hear behind-the-scenes practicing and improvements.
The Recording will be in June 2027 with producer Ian Quinn, Professor of Music Theory at Yale University.
Sheet music videos on YouTube–the primary way musicians find new repertoire now–will follow.
