The portrait of Estelle Ramey, PhD, was commissioned for the Georgetown Women in Medicine’s (GWIM) Women on the Walls campaign. It’s an oil on canvas, 52" x 34" painted by award-winning Washington, D.C., portrait artist Gavin Glakas. (Image: Gavin Glakas)

Updated 4/15/2019: Thank you for everyone who has supported the campaign so far! Last week, we unveiled the portrait of Estelle Ramey, PhD, at GWIM's 25th anniversary celebration, another step forward for the visibility of women leadership at GUMC. Ramey, an endocrinologist and physiologist, is famously known for using her medical training to disprove allegations that women’s hormones make them unfit to hold office. She was also the founder and onetime president of the Association for Women in Science and a former member of the President’s Advisory Committee for Women. Read more about the event here.

Join the Women on the Walls campaign to make a difference in the recognition and visibility of women leaders at Georgetown University School of Medicine. Optics matter: seeing prominent women represented in portraits inspires and motivates other women to aspire to leadership roles and positions of authority. The women and underrepresented faculty who have had enormous impact on the development and growth of our programs should be recognized for their contributions and inspire future generations. Help make a dent in the gender inequities of academic medicine leadership. Increase the visibility of women leaders. Contribute today to Women on the Walls.

The mission of Georgetown Women in Medicine (GWIM) is to promote the professional advancement of women faculty at Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC). Our goal is the establishment of policies and a working environment that promote equality and diversity in hiring, promotion, and compensation throughout the Medical Center.
