Gifts to Student Robotics Conference Travel - Year of the Ginkgo contribute to...
BSC Computer Science students are innovating, creating, and finding their passions. Our students are developing research projects within the theme of accessible computing fostering the kindness they have to care for others. The research projects and publications/presentations will assist in building their confidence that they can be successful in the field of computer science, and their goal is to present this research at academic conferences this year.
A few of the projects BSC students are developing:
- Three students are working on a mobile application to create an interior map for people with visual impairments. We hope to submit their work to a conference for publication, and they will need funds for travel.
- The student who just won third place in the research competition in November wants to continue his work, but he needs a laptop to be able to continue working on it. More importantly, his work will be submitted to a conference in the spring, and he will need funds for travel to present the work.
- Another student is working on creating a lower cost “smart” prosthetic arm. She is training the robotic arm to respond to commands from another device, and we will work with an EEG to control the arm in the spring. She may be in need of other equipment as well as travel funds.
- Two students are designing a device to collect movement data for wheelchair athletes. A fitbit or pedometer won’t work for wheelchair athletes. These students will be collaborating with the Lakeshore Foundation to better understand the needs of wheelchair athletes and to test their device. Some equipment may need to be purchased, but they will need conference travel funds.
Your support will help these students continue their research in Computer Science and bring their work to academic conferences. Thank you!
