About

The Krulak institute promotes and supports experiential learning at BSC. Experiential learning invites students to integrate classroom knowledge with real-world experiences.

Internships, community service-learning, study abroad, and undergraduate research with a faculty member, for example, all require students to integrate what they know with what they do.

Through thoughtful, critical reflection, students involved in experiential learning gain insight into who they are and who they want to be: as future professionals, as lifelong learners, and as engaged citizens.

Areas represented by the Krulak Institute: Academic Distinctions, Community Engagement, Exploration Term, Independent Study, Internships, Leadership Studies, Mentorships, Study Abroad, and Undergraduate Research “I realized that mobilizing people on issues is an impactful way that everyday people can have a voice in public policy and the actions of members of congress. I really understood the purpose of my work and how it connected to the big picture. I realized that anyone can have an impact on what happens in Washington if they are active and take steps to have their voices heard.” – Carter Hancock (’19), 2017 Hess Fellow with the National Alliance to End Homelessness

“I can’t stress enough how impactful this (Panther Partnerships) program has been for me in developing my professional goals and aspirations.” – Abbi Hallman (’20), mentored by Keith Johnston at Southern Environmental Law Center

“I can say without a shadow of a doubt that choosing to study abroad was one of the best and most influential decisions of my life. I cannot begin to express in words the enriching experiences and lessons that came from my semester abroad, but I can say that any student with the opportunity to do this would be crazy not to leap at the chance. Don’t hesitate to make the change in your life that your soul needs but your mind is too afraid to make happen. Make it happen; you will be happy that you did.” – Macey Rowland ’20 studied abroad spring 2018 at University Francois-Rabelais Tours
