About

Neurological diseases are rising rapidly as our population ages, yet we still lack a clear understanding of how the brain changes over time. This gap in knowledge limits our ability to prevent or delay disorders that affect millions of lives. At Arizona State University, Dr. Verpeut’s SOCIAL Neurobiology Lab is working to change that. Our mission is to reduce the burden of age-related neurological disorders and promote healthy brain aging which will help maintain independence, cognition, and quality of life.

Our research focuses on the cerebellum, a critical but often overlooked brain region involved not only in coordination and learning, but also in emotion regulation and cognitive health. By studying how the cerebellum develops, adapts, and ages, we aim to uncover how brain circuits evolve across the lifespan and how these changes may contribute to neurological disease.

Your support directly fuels this work. It provides hands-on training for students and enables essential research tools, including immunoassays to measure inflammation and specialized antibodies for cellular imaging. These resources allow us to track how cerebellar circuits change from early life through aging with unprecedented detail. With the current cuts to funding (~2.4B in NIH research) we need your support. No donation is too small and every dollar will be spent to support research and student training.

Together, we can advance the science of brain aging and move closer to a future where more people can live longer, healthier, and more cognitively vibrant lives.
