About

Leave a lasting legacy by supporting the Alumni Legacy Project, which provides retention scholarships for students at risk of leaving Georgia Southern.

For many of our students, a degree is within reach, but financial difficulties, personal challenges or unforeseen circumstances create one last barrier. Your support can be the bridge that takes these students from leaving college without finishing their education to walking across the graduation stage as their loved ones watch.

Students who receive financial support are 83.2% more likely to graduate, and with your help, we can ensure these students stay enrolled and on track to complete their degrees. By supporting the Alumni Legacy Project, you’re helping provide them with the resources they need to soar beyond their challenges and achieve their goals!

Our goal is $100,000 by the end of this calendar year, and with Eagle Nation on our side, we know we can get there!

Sporting clay success, and maintaining momentum!

Sporting clay participants listen to instructions before the day begins

Last month, the Georgia Southern Alumni Sporting Clay Shoot brought our Eagle community together in a meaningful and impactful way. With every pull of the trigger, participants helped advance the Alumni Legacy Project, and as a result, the event raised nearly $30,000 to help students cross the graduation stage! This photo gallery captures some scenes of the day.

A huge thank you to Georgia Southern University Alumni Board of Directors members Jessica Hood, Hank Stewart, and Ellen Wooditch, as well as alumni chapter leader Knox Theus, who were instrumental in planning and executing the event. Thank you also to Dr. Ale Sosa Pieroni, Georgia Southern’s executive vice president for enrollment, marketing and student success, who came out and explained the impact of our attendees’ support.

And of course, we would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our event sponsors, whose commitment made this event and its success possible.

Participants of the sporting clay shoot take aim

From events like the sporting clay shoot to individual donations from all over the country, our project has built up some incredible momentum in the last few months. Eagle Nation is responding to the message that the Alumni Legacy Project is putting forth — so it would be a shame to stop that momentum now.

For that reason, we have decided to extend the Alumni Legacy Project campaign, giving even more Eagles a chance to support future generations of students.

Our new deadline will be June 30, 2026, and you will hear about more exciting opportunities to support the project in the weeks and months to come!

For now, though, thank you to all our generous donors, and happy holidays to everyone!

10,000 more reasons to get excited

We are thrilled to announce that our efforts got a huge boost recently with a $10,000 commitment from Bill Wallace (‘81) and Lana Wachniak (‘73), two dedicated Eagles who are members of the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences Advisory Board. They had this to say about their gift to the Alumni Legacy Project:

Every student has the potential to succeed. We encourage all alumni to donate and demonstrate to our students that we care. In times of need, all Georgia Southern Eagles soar as one.

Bill and Lana’s gift is also a testament to the power of advocacy. Our alumni board president, Curtis Williams, spoke with Lana and Bill about the Alumni Legacy Project and helped them see the difference their gift could make.

So, keep sharing, keep advocating, and keep spotlighting the difference we can make when “all Georgia Southern Eagles soar as one!” Thank you to Bill and Lana for their generous gift, thank you to Curtis for helping bring them into the fold, and thank you to all of you for your commitment to Georgia Southern students!

Fundraising update, and a great advocate video!

It's been a great week! Since Monday, we have raised over $1,800 in support of students facing financial hardships. A huge thank you to every donor who has given us this early momentum!

We've also had several people sign up as advocates and push the campaign out to their networks. Advocates like them are going to be hugely important in expanding the reach of the campaign. If you'd like to become an advocate, you can find more info on that here!

One of the most effective actions you can take as an advocate is to create a personal video (like this great one from Victoria Edwards).

This kind of sincere testimonial does so much to convince people to join the campaign, so if you want to record one yourself, think about your why — why are scholarships important to you, why does Georgia Southern matter, why do you give? Record a short video sharing your why, make sure you're signed up as an advocate, then upload that video here and share it (and your advocate giving link) to your social media accounts!

Thank you again to everyone who has joined us here!
