Musketeer Ministries is a new student led ministry this year at Xavier. It is modeled after the Broken Bus Ministry, a non profit run by XU Professor Michelle Bailes. Weekly students drive a bus around Norwood, Evanston and Avondale to visit with neighbors, build friendships and connect with folks in the local community.
Part of their ministry is handing out hot meals, seasonal items and clothing items to those in need. Funds donated will go directly to the purchasing food, and supplies given to folks in the community through the ministry.
After years of taking Xavier students along to serve with her, Michele Bailes helped students Ben Dickison and Tyler Hawatmeh to start this program. It is housed under the Dorothy Day Center for Faith and Justice and is a great way for students to learn to be with and for others. Students say this program is not just one sided. They learn so much from the experience and really benefit greatly from the encounters and friendships build with others through the bus.
