The Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program at Xavier University offers a transformative educational experience that brings Xavier students and incarcerated individuals together as academic peers in a rigorous, semester-long course held inside a correctional facility. Grounded in Ignatian values and cura personalis, the program deepens students’ understanding of justice, responsibility, and human dignity while fostering empathy, critical thinking, and meaningful civic engagement. Donor support is essential to sustain this work by funding course materials and supplies, program t-shirts that foster shared identity and community, faculty stipends and travel support recognizing the extensive preparation required, and student travel assistance to ensure participation is accessible to all students. An investment in Inside-Out is an investment in high-impact learning, equitable access, and the formation of ethically grounded leaders committed to justice and the common good.
