Gifts to History contribute to...
At William & Mary, the History Department fosters a dynamic academic community where students engage deeply with the past to better understand the present. Through need-based scholarships, academic prizes and research funding, we support our undergraduate and graduate majors as they explore history both locally and globally — whether conducting original research for honors theses or gaining hands-on experience in archives and museums.
Your generosity allows us to bring leading scholars and guest speakers to campus, host thought-provoking public symposia on critical historical themes and provide immersive learning experiences. From Civil War battlefields to Jamestown’s archaeological labs, from Charlottesville to Washington, D.C., our students engage with history where it happened. Gifts from alumni and friends also make possible our student-run undergraduate History journal, offering invaluable experience in scholarly publishing.
