The Charles Center is William & Mary's hub for transformative undergraduate research experiences beyond the classroom and across disciplines. By fostering close mentorship through scholars programs, research and journalism initiatives and innovative real-world internships, we prepare students for lives and livelihoods of purpose.

Your Impact

• Mentored Research: One in five W&M undergraduates engages in research through the Charles Center, collaborating with faculty and external partners who are leaders in their disciplines.
• Innovative Internships: We are expanding experiential, research-centered internships that allow students to apply classroom knowledge to real-world challenges in museums, nonprofits and news organizations.
• Research in Motion: We encourage students to share their discoveries through national conferences, seminars and hands-on research in the field.
• Study Away: We support research-based study-away experiences that connect students with the people, places and issues they explore in their coursework.
• Scholars & Honors Programs: Nearly 1,000 students benefit from Charles Center mentorship and programming as Monroe Scholars, WMSURE Scholars, 1693 Scholars, Sharpe Scholars or Honors students.
