Title: Using Unnatural Amino Acid Technology for the Development of Novel Methods of Protein Bioconjugation
Department: Chemistry
Description: The project will continue previous work involving the applications of site-specific incorporation of unnatural amino acids (UAAs) in proteins. Because only twenty amino acids naturally occur in proteins, UAAs present an opportunity to expand proteins? chemical functionality. Specifically, UAAs can serve as sites for bioconjugation in proteins, a process in which a small molecule is covalently linked to a larger biomolecule.
