Title: The Role of Histone Deacetylases in the Intracellular Localization of Thyroid Hormone Receptors
Department: Biology
Description: The thyroid and its signaling pathway play an important role in the regulation of metabolism, temperature, energy levels, and many other crucial functions in the human body. This project will explore the role of histone deacetylases (HDACs) in the thyroid hormone pathway and how they affect the intracellular localization of thyroid hormone receptors (TR). Research will be conducted using HeLa cells as model cells and fluorescently labeled proteins to help measure the localization of TR within the cells. The aim of this research is to provide insight into the mechanisms of this signaling pathway in the cell, which proteins play a role in this pathway, and how changes to proteins in the cell might affect the functionality of this pathway. The knowledge gained from this research could be used to further research into treatments of the diseases found in this pathway.
