Title: Unangam Tunuu Language Documentation
Department: Linguistics
Description: This project will explore the current grammar, vocabulary, and expressions of Unangam Tunuu (Aleut), a critically endangered language spoken in Alaska's Aleutian Islands, the Pribilof Islands, and a part of the Alaskan Peninsula. With the use of native speakers that are a part of the community, the project will translate and transcribe a portion of the 50 hours of prerecorded conversations in the language. By documenting the language used in the recordings, the database created as a result will provide the community with an updated usage of their language, allowing them to make material such as an updated teaching curriculum to promote Unangam Tunuu language learning, recorded translations of commonly used words, and added digital records of their native language.
