Equality Scholarship

This campaign ended on November 01, 2018, but you can still make a gift to Wichita State University by clicking here!

The Richard D. Muma and Rick A. Case Equality Scholarship fund was originally established in 2011 because the donors felt that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning students are often overlooked and wanted to show that group of students that someone notices and cares about them, and most importantly, help them reach their college goals.  Now in its sixth year, the scholarship has awarded $7,000 to 7 students.  The scholarship was established with a $15,000 endowed gift from the donors.  It has now grown to over $20,000.  In order to increase the endowment and generate more scholarships, the donors have agreed to match up to $3,000 raised through a crowdfunding project.  The $3,000 raised will be used to award additional scholarships beyond the current scholarship payout.  The $3,000 donor match will be added to the scholarship corpus to help increase the award for future students.

The Richard D. Muma and Rick A. Case Equality Scholarship fund is unique in that it supports students who are members of the Spectrum: LGBTQ & Allies, a WSU student organization, which supports a safe space for discussion, activism, and education to promote equality for all members of the gender identity and sexuality spectrums.  This scholarship is the only one of its kind on campus and one of just a handful nationwide.
