WCU Student-Athlete Academic Support Services

This campaign ended on November 30, 2018, but you can still make a gift to Western Carolina University by clicking here!

WCU Athletics' goal this Giving Tuesday is to raise $13,000 to refresh and update 12 of the laptops ($1,075 each) for the Student-Athlete Academic Support Services Computer Lab. Achieving and surpassing this goal will allow our Academic Staff to offer the proper tools they need to unlock the unlimited potential in each of our Catamounts!

At WCU, we pride ourselves in offering all our student-athletes the best experience in the Southern Conference. It's our mission to provide them with the resources necessary to succeed in life, long after their days in competition are done. That starts in the classroom, and in recent years, the Student-Athlete Academic Support Services has become one of the best support units not only in our region, but in the country. Our student-athletes are achieving beyond anything we have seen before...just take a look:

WCU Athletic Academic Achievements

  • WCU Men's and Women's programs both ranked 3rd in the Southern Conference in overall GPA during the 2017-2018 year.
  • The Softball team earned the highest team GPA (3.673) in all of D-I softball programs in 2016-2017
  • In 2017 alone, 3 of our 16 programs achieved their highest GPA on record
    • Men's Track and Field
    • Women's Soccer
    • Men's Basketball
  • This past Spring, 57% of our student-athletes earned a 3.0 GPA or higher, with 36 carrying a perfect 4.0
  • WCU student-athletes have set new records in highest average GPA in back to back semesters (Fall 2017 and Spring 2018)
  • 98 Student Athletes named to the All-Conference Academic Team in 2017-2018.

With that said, the computer lab is in desperate need of new technology, specifically new laptops. Currently the laptops our student-athletes have access to are more than 10 years old and inefficient. Most importantly, not all of our student-athletes have the means or access to a personal laptop that is needed to complete the rigors of a WCU education. By fulfilling this goal, your investment will afford our young men and women the proper technology they need to walk across the stage at graduation. Our student-athletes need better; they deserve better; and they have earned better!

What Will It Take?

13 Supporters to Give - $1,000

26 Supporters to Give - $500

52 People to Give - $250

The ambitious endeavors of this Giving Tuesday will cement the foundation and provide our Student-Athlete Academic Support Services with the resources they need to continue set a new standard of academic excellence. That's why we are asking you to celebrate philanthropy, support our Catamounts, and afford them to chase their dreams long after they leave the 'Whee.
