Invest in the Future of Catamount Track & Field and Cross Country

For more than a decade, Andrew “Andy” L. Smith has been part of the WCU Track & Field and Cross Country community, as a competitor, volunteer, supporter, and friend of the program. Now, Andy and his wife, LouAnn, are helping create a stronger future for Catamount student-athletes through the Andrew “Andy” L. and LouAnn M. Smith Track and Field Support Endowment.

Established with a $100,000 commitment from the Smiths, this endowment provides additional support for WCU’s men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor Track & Field and Cross Country programs, with an initial focus on expanding coaching resources.

Today, one head coach and two assistant coaches are responsible for recruiting, coaching, mentoring, and supporting approximately 90 student-athletes across these six programs. Additional coaching support can give student-athletes more opportunities for individualized guidance, mentorship, development, and success.

Andy has seen firsthand the dedication of WCU’s coaches and student-athletes. After first discovering the program while training for a racewalking competition in 2009, he began volunteering at WCU meets, building relationships with coaches and athletes, and supporting the programs financially. When Coach Jesse Norman identified additional coaching staff as a top priority, Andy and LouAnn saw an opportunity to make a lasting impact.
