Gifts to Dub-C Autism Program (D-CAP) contribute to...
In July of 2026, the Dub-C Autism Program (D-CAP) will be celebrating 10 years of supporting autistic undergraduate and graduate students at WCU. D-CAP has provided support to over 200 students, with over 60 alumni. Students receive direct assistance with executive functioning/academic planning, social connection, independence, self-advocacy, and professional/career development via 1:1 meetings, groups/workshops, and special events. D-CAP’s initiatives beyond direct support include:
- Training for faculty, staff, and students on autism and neurodiversity-affirming language
- Collaborating with university events, to provide Neuro-Inclusive Campus Environments (N.I.C.E.)
- Inviting high school students summer opportunities to learn about and prepare for college.
- Partnering with campus and community employers to provide opportunities for professional development and employment for students
- Providing customized, sensory-friendly, study abroad and cultural immersion trips
- Accessing Neurodiversity Employment Network events for job seekers and networking
- Giving Scholarships for: study abroad, tuition, D-CAP supports, attending/presenting at conferences.
- Creating and maintaining sensory-friendly spaces across campus (Relaxin Rammy Spaces)
- Spreading awareness and acceptance across campus with sensory tools, autistic voice t-shirts, stickers, and other give aways.
- Participating and Supporting the community via Eagles Autism Foundation- WCU College Chapter. Setting the standard for bylaws and importance of autism voices and involvement
- Dispersing weekly newsletters with information regarding employment opportunities, research participation, continuing education workshops/webinars/conferences, and highlights
- Hosting a Sensory-friendly D-CAP graduation for family members and friends to receive D-CAP recognition and cord/stole D-CAP has been recognized for its commitment to student success via numerous news articles and videos.
In 2024, D-CAP was honored with Autism Program of the Year at the College Autism Summit.
