Recycling Infrastructure
Wayne State University is committed to expanding sustainable practices that reduce waste, conserve resources, and create a cleaner campus environment for the campus community. This Giving Day, the Office of Campus Sustainability is raising funds to upgrade recycling and waste-sorting infrastructure across campus. Our goal is to increase recycling by establishing a 1:1 ratio of recycling bins to landfill bins throughout university buildings.
Right now, inconsistent bin placement makes it easy for recyclables to end up in the trash. Research and our own campus waste audits show that people recycle correctly when a recycling bin is just as convenient as a trash bin. By providing paired, clearly labeled multi-stream stations, the campus can reduce contamination and significantly increase the amount of material that is recycled.
Your support helps us:
- Create a 1:1 bin ratio in high-traffic areas, ensuring recycling is always accessible
- Install modern multi-stream stations with clear, color-coded labels
- Add educational signage to guide students, visitors, and event guests
- Reduce contamination in buildings with the highest daily foot traffic
Achieve your charitable goals and create your WSU legacy with a gift in your estate plan.
