Mechanical Engineering

Gifts to the Mechanical Engineering Annual Fund on Giving Day enable the department to deliver rigorous and innovative academic programs that serve a diverse community of students from a wide range of backgrounds and ethnicities. Grounded in engineering fundamentals and enriched by experiential learning opportunities, the department prepares graduates to become highly skilled engineers with broad technical expertise, strong professional competencies, and competitive career prospects to succeed in industry, government, and academia. Gifts made to the Mechanical Engineering Department will directly support the following strategic initiatives that enhance student success and expand access to transformative learning experiences:

  • Expand student travel awards to enable greater participation in professional conferences, where students can present their research, engage with leading experts, and build meaningful professional networks. These experiences elevate their visibility within the field while strengthening their competitiveness and enhancing their employability in both industry and academia.
  • Increase scholarships for Mechanical Engineering students, many of whom balance full-time work during the day with classes at night, to ease their financial burden. Expanded scholarship support will allow these dedicated students to reduce work hours, focus more fully on their studies, accelerate progress toward graduation, and fully engage in academic and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Expand the free Summer High School Research Program to offer more students immersive, on-campus research experiences. Working alongside faculty and graduate mentors on projects in emerging energy technologies, CAD/3D modeling, and fuel cell research, students gain hands-on exposure to innovation while strengthening their critical thinking and professional skills. By connecting STEM learning to real-world societal and industry challenges, the program inspires sustained interest in engineering as both a college major and a future career.
