CEID Lab Readiness & Rapid Response Fund

The Challenge

Emerging infectious diseases don’t follow a schedule. When a new pathogen surfaces — whether it’s a novel respiratory virus, a drug-resistant bacterium, or an outbreak of measles spreading through Detroit neighborhoods — the ability to respond swiftly and accurately can be the difference between containment and crisis.

The Wayne State University Center for Emerging and Infectious Diseases is built to be that rapid-response resource. But staying ready requires more than expertise — it demands skilled personnel, modern laboratory management systems, and the right equipment, maintained and operational at all times.

What Your Gift Supports

Your Giving Day contribution will directly fund two interconnected priorities:

Skilled Lab Personnel

Highly trained laboratory scientists and technicians are the backbone of CEID’s diagnostic and research capabilities. Supporting personnel means CEID can maintain capacity to pivot rapidly when new threats emerge — running novel assays, validating new tests, and processing samples when it matters most. CEID’s lab holds a High Complexity CLIA license, a rigorous federal certification requiring exceptional staff competency and ongoing training.

Laboratory Management Systems

Modern infectious disease science runs on data. Laboratory information management systems, quality control protocols, and digital infrastructure allow CEID to track samples, manage results, ensure compliance, and report findings to public health partners in real time. Your gift helps sustain these systems so the lab remains accredited, efficient, and ready.

Your gift on Giving Day will make a direct impact on community health in Detroit!

Achieve your charitable goals and create your WSU legacy with a gift in your estate plan.
